Have you been contacted by consultants about the Certificate of Recognition Program?
As of today, there are five consultants who have been trained and certified to perform the Local Government Health and Safety or Return to Work Audits, which are necessary to receive the Certificate of Recognition. (please see Approved Auditors for contact information) Several more consultants have taken the required training, but the participants must complete a student audit prior to being acknowledged as qualified auditors.
Anyone who has said or implied they are qualified to perform Audits on behalf of the BCMSA, other than David Jewesson, John Dunn, Sunshine Borsato, Dean Sinclair and Stuart Johnston, are not being accurate.
In addition, another company has contacted employers who have a significant surcharge on their Experience Rated Assessment; they say they received this information through the Freedom of Information Act. WorkSafeBC is looking into that situation. This company is also implying they have qualified auditors to help you get the COR rebate.
Many Safety Consultants can certainly assist employers in improving their Safety Management Systems, which are the basis of the Health and Safety Audit. Please note that at this point, only five are actually qualified to perform an audit on behalf of the BCMSA.
