3. ensure the Certificate of Recognition program is available to all its members
4. embark on an aggressive marketing plan to become the resource of choice

The following important strategies will also be followed:
1. Collaborate with naturally aligned associations and capitalize on appropriate relationships
2. Review and redistribute previously developed programs, ensuring they are current and technically correct

History:

The BC Municipal Safety Association began in the early 90’s as a small group of municipal safety officers who wanted to share experiences, safety programs, safety horror stories, etc.   We have been registered under the Societies Act of BC, since October 1994.  For the first sixteen years we operated solely with volunteer help, and managed to create several training programs (see "Resources") and coordinated six highly successful municipal occupational health & safety conferences (see “Upcoming events” for the 2009 conference brochure).

In January 2009, the BCMSA hired an executive director, who will help the Association move forward with a number of projects to help employers improve the health and safety of workers in the local government sector, and to ultimately reduce costs through fewer injuries and lower assessment rates.  In May, we were approved as the Certifying Partner under the WorkSafeBC Partners Program, are now able to offer the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program for local government employers.  For information on the Certificate of Recognition Program check out the tab on the left of the web page.

The BCMSA holds quarterly meetings to provide information and presentations on a variety of topics, and to provide members with the opportunity for sharing problems and programs.  For the schedule and agendas of upcoming meetings, see "Upcoming Events"
